Parking Lot Safety

On any given school day the parking lot is abuzz with activity during two peak times: around the beginning of the school day (8:00-8:45ish AM) and around the end of the school day (3:15-3:45ish PM). Bus traffic is a priority and personal vehicle use must become secondary while the busses are in the parking lot. Just a short time ago a departing bus and a moving personal vehicle came quite close to hitting one another. Also, I’ve noticed some personal vehicles moving quite quickly through the parking lot – quick enough for me to be concerned about stopping distance, should a hard stop be required for whatever reason.

I’m going to recommend that all personal vehicles drive slowly, deliberately, and with care through the CCRS parking lot. When busses are present, no personal vehicle should attempt to drive past the busses to exit the parking lot; please wait until all of the busses have departed.

Pedestrians, please look both ways before crossing the parking lot, especially at the peak times, and make sure you utilize the concrete walkway near the school building, along the north edge of the parking lot.

Thankfully there have been no injuries among parking lot users, and I hope it stays that way. Let’s allow common sense to prevail – we are a school with many students of varying ages, as well as a broader community of school property users, so let’s bear the safety of all in mind.
